Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the best age for my child to start learning English?
The majority of our students start their English studies in third grade so that they can be fully familiar with reading and writing in Greek. However, if a child is ready, they could start in second grade and be fully prepared for the more demanding curriculum in third grade English.
When is my child going to complete their studies?
This depends on their progress. For our part, we try to speed the process and most of our students take their B2 exams (Lower) by the end of their second year in middle school, so that they have enough time to prepare for and take their C2 exams (Proficiency) by the end of their first year in high school.
Which certificates do you prepare your students for?
All our students are exposed to the same material, which prepares them for the Cambridge and Michigan certificates. In the case of students who wish to take a friendlier exam, we prepare them for the NOCN certification. Finally, when it comes to university studies, we prepare students both for the IELTS exam required by many Bachelor’s and Master’s programs and for the English exam students are required to take in order to study in certain Greek universities.
I don’t speak English. Will my child be able to keep up with the class?
Of course! Parents are expected to simply supervise their child, that is to ensure that all the books and notebooks have been packed and that the child has completed their assigned tasks. Additionally, we ask parents to inform us in case the child misses a lesson or they express any positive or negative remarks about the lesson, so that we improve from the feedback. In case the child faces a difficulty with the material or the tasks, parents have NO obligation to step in, simply to inform us.
Do you offer private lessons?
No. The English language is a tool for communication. A private lesson could be beneficial when it comes to grammar and exam techniques, but the language itself can only be mastered through interaction with other students. With that being said, if a student faces difficulties with the material, there is the option of supplementary one-to-one lessons, so that the student can better organize the new information, practice the new techniques, and catch up with the rest of the class.
Do you offer summer lessons?
No. In summer, students are too tired to learn and make actual progress. We prefer starting the lessons in September, well-rested and in the most appropriate class, so that students can gain the most during the school year without overworking themselves or sacrificing their summer holidays.
How can I help my child at home?
Parents, you can actively help students in various ways. On a practical level, we ask that you inform us in case the student makes a complaint about the lesson, for instance, because they think it’s too easy or too difficult. Also, especially in the case of younger students, we ask that you make sure that the student has adequately prepared for the next lesson and inform us if they have had any difficulties with the homework, so that we can intervene and avoid creating gaps in knowledge.
Generally, it’s a good idea to help students gain general knowledge about the world around them. Through conversations, books, films, series, shows, and music, you can help them discover the world around them, gain knowledge on a variety of topics, and effectively express their opinion. Furthermore, you could encourage them to expose themselves to the English language. Starting off of educational videos and short episodes of their favorite animated series in English and gradually progressing to series, films, and educational programmes, students become familiar with the English language and acquire it naturally and in a fun way.
What happens in case my child has to miss a lesson?
In case the child feels unwell or can’t attend the lesson because of a family obligation, we offer the option to attend the lesson online from a computer, tablet, or smartphone, so that they don’t miss it. Of course, we offer support in case there is a technical difficulty or they are entirely unable to attend the lesson, so that they don’t fall behind.
