The preparation for exams is the final step of an organized and methodical effort so that our students can master the language correctly at all its levels.

Instead of teaching the certificate, we expose students to the language using authentic material and teach them how to manage information, the language, and the natural flow of speech.

Frequently Asked Questions about English Exam Preparation

What English certificates are you preparing your students for?

At The English School we prepare students for all internationally recognized English diplomas: Cambridge (Key A2, Preliminary B1, First B2/Lower, Advanced C1, Proficiency C2), Michigan (ECCE B2, ECPE C2), NOCN (all levels), IELTS Academic and General, as well as the Special English Course for the Panhellenic Examinations. The choice of the appropriate diploma is made in consultation with the student and the family.

What is the difference between Cambridge and Michigan?

Cambridge diplomas are internationally known and recognized throughout Europe and the world, while Michigan also has significant recognition. Technically, they differ in the structure of the exams: Cambridge places greater emphasis on oral communication, while Michigan has more requirements in written expression and comprehension. For those who prefer a more friendly exam, there is the option of NOCN certificates.

How much preparation time is needed before the exams?

The ideal preparation duration is 8-10 months before the exams, so that the student is sufficiently exposed to all types of exercises and develops confidence. In intensive courses, we can compress the process to 4-6 months, provided the student already has the corresponding language level. We evaluate each case individually before suggesting a timeline.

What method do you use for exam preparation?

We do not simply teach the certificate. We expose students to the language using authentic materials (real articles, videos, podcasts) and teach them how to manage information and the natural flow of speech. Thus, in the exam, they do not just recognize types of exercises, but truly understand what is being asked and respond with confidence. This method has been tested with high success rates.

How do you help students cope with exam anxiety?

Exam anxiety is one of the most significant factors affecting performance. We address anxiety in two ways: first, we ensure that the student knows the subject matter thoroughly, so they enter the exam prepared. Second, we conduct exam simulations under real conditions (time, silence, type of exercises), so the student becomes familiar with the experience and showcases all their knowledge with confidence.

Which diploma is better for professional use?

For professional use, we usually recommend Cambridge B2 First (Lower) or C1 Advanced, which are widely recognized by employers in Greece and abroad. For academic purposes or studies abroad, IELTS Academic is often required. For promotion in the public sector or for ASEP, the State Certification of Language Proficiency or the ECPE are also good options.

How often are the exams held?

Cambridge and Michigan diplomas are held twice a year (in December and May), with some exceptions that have additional periods. IELTS is offered more frequently, almost every month. NOCN diplomas also have multiple exam periods annually. We inform you in advance about the application deadlines and assist with the registration process.

What success rates do your students have?

Our students consistently achieve high success rates in exams, thanks to the structured preparation and the emphasis we place on deep understanding of the language. We do not simply aim for passing the exam, but for students to emerge from the process with substantial knowledge and confidence. Thus, the diploma becomes a real tool for knowledge and expression for their present and future.
